Getting Started - 4/29/09
Here is the pieced top of a memory quilt I made for the 2009 Saline Celtic Festival
This project started at the 2008 festival, when I noticed behind the T-shirt table, they had a few T-shirts on display from past years. Some of the shirt designs were so cool, but I thought they might be better displayed (and preserved) as a memory quilt. I love the festival so much, and would love to be a part of making it happen, but I don't play any instruments (6 notes on a cello doesn't count), I can't dance, and really shouldn't sing (at least not in public). But I can quilt, and so contacted a festival organizer, offering my services. They accepted, and gathered together some T-shirts from past years. These designs are true works of art, as you can see, and I'm so honored to be a part of preserving them!

A closer look
Here is a closer look at one of the blocks. It isn't as clear from this picture as I would like, but I set the T-shirt blocks inside a border of black triangles, which makes each block appear to be "tilted" on its side.

Border Quilting
This shows the stencil I used for the "celtic braid" quilting in the border.

Fabric for the backing
Here's the fabric I used for the back. I chose a plaid, in keeping with the Celtic theme, and a flannel, because it is so nice and soft against the skin.
